Summary: A reminiscence written for the "Yarns of Yesteryear" contest, describing a family automobile trip from Clinton, Wisconsin to Los Angeles in 1920, including details on items taken along and how the car was packed, places for overnight stays, and the guide book used for road directions; with a letter containing supplemental information.

Author/Creator: Hawkins, Marion E.

Title: Papers, 1939-1993

Summary: Papers of Marion E. Hawkins, 1939-1993, an English professor at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, containing personal correspondence; photographs; information on Grace Pilgrim Bloom, the oldest graduate ever of the university; lectures given at National Taiwan Normal University; and extensive travel journals from trips to Europe and Taiwan, 1969-1984. A 2013 addition contains her correspondence, personal diaries, travel diaries and journals, coursework and speeches, personal materials and photographs. Arranged by date and consisting primarily of letters sent to Hawkins by her friends and employers, her correspondence comprises the majority of this collection. Information in the letters reveals how Hawkins' work as a professor and additional volunteer activities influenced the university. Hawkins' home diaries record both her daily personal and professional activities including the meals she ate, classes she taught, and time she awoke. Her travel diaries also record both her personal and professional activities while she was in various states or countries. In addition to recording personal information, Hawkins often writes about the landscapes and historic scenery she saw and daily news events of her destination. She then used these travel diaries as background material while writing her travel journals that she wrote to formally express how she experienced foreign lands.

Author/Creator: Heifetz, Louis H.

Title: Reflections, my life, 1942

Summary: An introspective autobiography of Heifetz, who grew up and married in a village in White Russia where he ran a leather business and later an unlicensed pharmacy until government oppression and anti-Jewish activity caused him in about 1913 to move his family to America, where he became a teacher at a Jewish school in Milwaukee; translated by Rabbi Dov Edelstein in 1980.

Author/Creator: Kanter, Azriel, Rabbi

Title: Journal, 1883-1906

Summary: Typescript personal journal of a rabbi who emigrated from Russia in 1892 and settled in Green Bay, Wis. in 1894 where he helped found Congregation Cnesses Israel. The journal is translated from Yiddish and contains detailed descriptions of marriage and family life, work, religious practices, Russian anti-Semitism, Kanter's experiences immigrating to the U.S., and his life in Green Bay from 1894 to 1906. Also included are photocopied photographs and maps, and reminiscences about the Kanter family and Green Bay's Jewish community by Joe Kanter, grandson, and Dorothy Bein, daughter of Azriel and Rose Kanter.

Summary: Form letter, July 19, 1950, to the Madison Jewish community written by Kasdin, a community member, describing his trip to Europe and Israel; including detailed descriptions of Israeli cities and communities and of Arab residents there, and mentioning sightseeing in Venice, Geneva, and Paris.

Title: Helen Schulte Kohlbeck papers, 1887-1958

Summary: Papers of Helen Schulte Kohlbeck, a former teacher and resident of Algoma, Wisconsin. Included are diaries, 1887-1903, describing various Wisconsin locations, especially Manitowoc County, and travels to Europe; a diary, 1938, describing a trip from Algoma to California; family correspondence, 1947-1956; correspondence written during her travels to Europe and the Holy Land, 1901-1903; miscellaneous clippings and memorabilia; a photocopy of a scrapbook; and a travelogue written in 1944-1945 about her European trip in 1901-1903. The travelogue and a clipping of Kohlbeck's obituary include photographs of her.

Summary: Original drawings of cartoons by Lyle Lahey which were published in the Green Bay News Chronicle and its predecessor, the Brown County Chronicle; concerning local, state, and national topics and personalities and also the Green Bay Packers and the National Football League. The cartoons provide a visual document about events, views, and people associated with particular locations.
