Building Guidelines

Food and Beverages
Food and beverages are allowed in most areas of the UW-Green Bay Library, except:
- Computer workstations, in accordance with campus policy.
- The Archives (7th floor, Cofrin Library).
Smoking
Smoking and vaping (e-cigarette use) are not allowed inside UW-Green Bay campus buildings, including the Library.
Noise and Study Expectations
To support research and study, please be considerate of others. Conversations should be kept quiet, especially outside of group study rooms and service areas. Silence your phone and take calls in lobby areas only.
Cofrin Library has two noise levels for study spaces:
- Conversational areas (2nd and 3rd floor, green signs): Designed for collaboration and group study. Talking is allowed and encouraged, but please keep voices low.
- Considerate study areas (4th, 5th, and 6th floors, yellow signs): Intended for individual or small group study. Noise should be minimal.
If noise in a Considerate study area is disruptive, you can:
- Report it to the 3rd floor desk in person or via chat
- Borrow noise-canceling earmuffs from the 3rd floor desk
Children in the Library
Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult while in UW-Green Bay Library. Exceptions include:
- Children who are currently affiliated with a UW-Green Bay program, as verified by University records.
- Children who are accessing Federal depository materials for research. To accommodate the legal use of Federal depository materials, library staff will provide mediated searching assistance to help children identify and locate this material.
- Unaccompanied children who do not meet these exceptions will be asked to leave.
Safety Concerns
The Library is a public space designed for academic research. For safety reasons, children must be supervised because:
- The Library is open to the public, including strangers.
- Internet access is unfiltered and may not be suitable for children.
- Staff cannot monitor children or ensure their safety, especially in emergencies.
- If a child is injured or becomes ill, staff cannot provide medical care or contact a guardian.
- If a child leaves on their own or with a stranger, staff cannot legally intervene.
