How to Use Databases
If you are new to using databases or are feeling a little out of practice, no worries! Take a look at the below links to chapters in a free textbook that the library developed for information on how to get started.
For an introduction to using databases, check out the "Databases" chapter.
Additionally, Search@UW and most databases have to be searched using what are called "keywords." Essentially, keywords are the most important words from a research question.
For example, here's a research question: Is there a connection between neighborhood air pollution and asthma rates? From that question, we could use the following three keywords to search in databases with: "asthma rates," "air pollution," and "neighborhood."
For more information on keywords, check out the "Keywords" chapter.
